چکیده

The observations on the ionospheric electron and ion temperatures (Te and Ti) measured by the RPA payload aboard the SROSS-C2 satellite have been used to study the effect of solar flares on ionospheric heating. The data on solar flare has been obtained from the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) Boulder, Colorado (USA). It has been found that the electron and ion temperatures have a consistent enhancement during the solar flares on the dayside Earth’s ionosphere. The estimated enhancement for the average electron temperature is from 1.3 to 1.9 times whereas for ion temperature it is from 1.2 to 1.4 times to the normal days average temperature. The enhancement of ionospheric temperatures due to solar flares is correlated with the diurnal variation of normal days’ ionospheric temperatures. The solar flare does not have any significant effect on the nightside ionosphere. A comparison with the temperature obtained from the IRI95 model also shows a similar enhancement.

Diurnal, seasonal and latitudinal variations of electron temperature measured by the SROSS C2 satellite at 500 km altitude and comparison with the IRI

The diurnal, seasonal and latitudinal variations of electron temperature Te, measured by the SROSS C2 satellite at equatorial and the low-latitudes during the low solar activity period of 1995–1997 are investigated. The average height of the satellite was ∼500 km and it covered the latitude belt of –31 to 34 and the longitude range of 40–100. Te varies between 700–800 K during nighttime (20:00–...

Effect of Lightning on Ionospheric Temperatures

ABSTRACT: It has been realized in recent years that the ionospheric temperature and ion density may be influenced by lightning. The ionospheric ion densities (O, O2 , H and He) and electron and ion temperatures were measured by the RPA payload aboard the Indian SROSS-C2 satellite. The data at low latitudes falling in the Indian subcontinent in the height range 425 – 625 km for the period 1995–1...

The Effect of Solar Particles in the Choice of Alloy Shielding in a Satellite

The damages and logical failures in dierent parts of a satellite may occur during a solar event, when a bulk of solar energetic particles approaching the Earth. During solar events, these particles may cause extensive damages which are even permanent (hard errors). A way of damage reduction is designing a proper coating as the fuselage. As protons are the major component of solar particles and ...

Role of neutral wind and storm time electric fields inferred from the storm time ionization distribution at low latitudes: in-situ measurements by Indian satellite SROSS-C2

Recently, there has been a renewal of interest in the study of the effects of solar weather events on the ionization redistribution and irregularity generation. The observed changes at low and equatorial latitudes are rather complex and are noted to be a function of location, the time of the storm onset and its intensity, and various other characteristics of the geomagnetic storms triggered by ...

Recent gamma-ray burst observations from the SROSS-C2 satellite

An experiment tomonitor celestial gamma ray bursts (GRBs) in the energy domain 20 keV–3MeV was launched onboard the SROSS-C2 satellite on 4 May 1994. The experiment is currently operational in space and has recorded twelve candidate events as on 15 February 1995. Ten of these have been confirmed as genuine gamma ray bursts by their near-simultaneous detection by other GRB experiments in interpl...
